I started carving in January 1994 with the traditional little bird. From there I went to different bird carvings, then on to shoes and boots. Santa’s and Snowmen came next followed by spoons and relief carving. I started chip carving in the spring of 1999 and have been doing chip carving ever since. I still do some carving in the round but chipping takes the majority of my time and effort. I joined the Blue Mound Wood Carvers in 1994, the Minnesota Wood Carvers and the National Wood Carvers Association iii 1997. What makes Bill’s chip carvings so special is a little more history of Bill himself I believe that Bill’s talent, lay hidden for most of his life. His passion for chip carving did not just emerge over night but grew with each chip, and finished carving. Box’s, plate’s spoons, plaque’s and more, continue to fill his home much to the delight of his wife Gwen. Family, friends, and more marvel at Bill’s self-taught ability. His carving’s are of “Professional Quality” and his willingness to pass his self found carving secrets and talent on to his fellow carvers at our club meetings makes Bill a valued member. |
