Jim Morris - Elected President Roger Morris - Elected Vice President Dorothy Petersen - Elected Secretary Bridget Belnap - Elected Treasurer Lowell Farland - Program Committee Al Harper - Program Committee Dues of $5 per year were proposed. It was agreed not to have meetings during the summer. The first meeting was held September 6, 1988. Lowell Farland and Jim Morris cut out blanks of Christmas Ornaments for us to carve. It was agreed to join Minnesota Wood Carvers Association. The club agreed to meet the first tuesday of the month beginning in September and carve until June 1. For (3) years in a row, beginning 1989, the carving club won merit badges at Estherville, Iowa's Winter Festival for Best Demonstration. June 5, 1990, the Carvers closed their season by having a family, dish-to-pass picnic lunch in the evening at Mondale Park. Everyone had been given a blank at their last meeting to carve to exchange at the picnic. 1990 - all the members carved a logo pin with the club name, and their name burned in to wear at shows. For many years, Myron Shuttle and his wife from Oronoco, MN provided dimensional wood for our club. Many of our members have attended many shows in the area. Eva Harper is the keeper of our scrapbook and also made vests with Ceylon Wood Carvers printed on the back, for our club. 1991 - Our dues were raised to $10 and remained there. Lowell Farland put together a calendar of event for our club. The carvers couldn't get enough carvings done during the meetings, so we added the 3rd Tuesday of the month for our meetings. We had our first show in the Mall in Fairmont. Coffee and rolls were served. 1992 - Doug Richards has taken charge of putting carving displays in the Fairmont Library, the Martin County Bank, and inviting carving members to carve at the open house. They bought carvings from members to be given away at their open house. 1993, Feb - For a brief time, our meetings were held while at the Ceylon Legion Community Hall. They returned to Petersen's Coffee Shop in May. Each member takes turns bringing lunch. Coffee is made at the coffee shop. Each month a different member makes blanks and teaches a different carving. At times, the club has invited a professional carver to teach a class. Club members are urged to bring a fried that is interested in carving. The first of the month is our business meeting. 1996 - The first year for a money-maker for the club, we had a Christmas Tree with ornaments made by each member. The tree is raffled off and a drawing held at our annual show in the Fairmont Mall. All members sell tickets. The funds go in our treasury for club projects. We have a loyal and interesting group of carvers in our Ceylon Wood Carvers Club. Secretary: Dorothy Petersen The latest club project was a carving quilt. A large carved block in the middle contains the Club's name and logo. Arranged around it in a square, are carved blocks done by each member of the club. The project is complete, except for (3) blocks. "Wood Carvers Grow Old Widdle-by-Widdle"
