The club meets from Sept thru May on the 3rd Monday evening of the month at 7:00 pm at the Whitney Senior Center on Northway Drive. [except Jan & Feb - 4th Monday]. Programs at the meetings vary with speakers on different carving or carving related topics or a hands-on project led by an volunteer club member. We also host three or four weekend workshops during each year. We meet in the Whitney Wood Shop for these carving sessions. We have an extensive club library. Members can check out materials to use on their own time and return for someone else to use. There are many carving books and reference books shared by all of us. For the past four years, we have participated in a local fundraiser to benefit the local HOSPICE programs. This is called the "Holly Ball" and held at the Holiday Inn. The first three years we decorated a themed tree with handcarved ornaments. These have sold at from $350 to $700 each. The first tree was a "Noah's Ark, the second was named, "Christmas, Up North" and the third was an "Angel Tree." This year we put together a large vine wreath decorated with many carved ornaments and it was bid at $305. The project for 2003 is a large pieced relief in a winter scene. Ken Ramler is chairman for this project [we've been working on it for two years.] Our annual display carving show is held in March at the St Cloud Civic Center as part of the Central Minnesota Home Builders Show. We try to include a club project to be displayed at this event. A few of these projects are noteable. In 1997 we carved a large quilt, entitled, "St Cloud, Then & Now." It is on permanent display at the Whitney Center. You may look up the story and photo on page 24 of the July/Aug. '97 issue of Chip Chats. In 1998-99, we did a human caricature project. Fred Stenman sketched willing members in line caricature drawings. Martin Fabel converted the drawings to the same size and we drew names, then carved each other. The story and photos to explain this project can be found on page 76 of the Sept/Oct '99 issue of ChipChats. The club sponsors the annual Snow Daze Carve-In on the first weekend after New Year's Day. It is held at the Green Lake Bible Camp at Spicer, Minnesota, about 45 miles SW of St Cloud. The first carve-in began in the year 2000. Co-chairs, Martin Fabel and Gen Jansen arrange for nine carving classes and a quilting session for the non-carving attendees. Other activities include demonstrations at various venues in the area, helping with scout projects, and mentoring other carvers. Some of our members teach woodcarving at Whitney and through area community education programs. Our members carve almost every type carving imaginable. Some specialize in certain styles or topics. Most of the carvers in this club are versatile and try many new ideas. . . . . . . . I think this covers most of what we
