Deb Sorensen:

A brief introduction of myself ,I have always been one to enjoy many forms of arts and crafts for as long as I can remember. I was always tinkering around .Drawing, painting flower arranging, working with clay etc.

Some time around fall 2003 I meet two wood carvers at coffee time at our local Hy-Vee store.

Next thing you know I was keeping an eye out on their talents. Showed some interest in what they were doing.

Next thing I know Duane Dallman, and Roger Stough convinced me to try to carve a small cowboy boot.

They even lent me the tools !! My first carving was pure challenge I was determined to prove myself to those two old timers. HA! Ha! After many many coffee hours I have ended up as President of our newly formed club.

Still just a green horn at this new art form, but I find it very enticing and relaxing at the same time. I am looking forward to learning more skills to this trade.

Our club is growing nicely.

A New Carver - By Ken Rusch

Meet Noah Meyer of Welcome MN Noah is 11 years old and is the youngest member of the Ceylon Wood Carvers. He joined the club in October of 2004.

Noah was influenced by another young woodcarver, Steph Parnell. Noah is home schooled as is Steph. One of her classes required her to make a demonstration speech which sparked an interest in Noah. She is a member of the Ceylon Wood Carvers also. She invited Noah to attend a meeting and to become a member.

Wood Carving is not a required class for Noah, but is a social activity. He had always enjoyed carving with a jack knife making small pieces and enjoyed the feel of wood in his hand.

The Ceylon Wood Carvers have really taken these young carvers seriously making it fun to share ideas, time, and talents.

In recognition of completion of his first carving project under the tutoring of Doug Richards, Noah was presented with a carving vest, given to the Ceylon Wood Carvers by Mrs, Ed Avant - in Ed's memory.
Noah & Bonnie Tow (Pres.)

Congratulations Noah - Welcome aboard!
