How I became a woodcarver- A good friend of mine asked me to go along to the Minnesota Wood Carvers Show in 1984. I was very impressed by all the talent from the average person like myself.

Within the next couple of months my friend asked me to go along to the Blue Earth Wood Carvers meeting which I joined and became a wood carver.

With all the help I received from the club and by attending a couple of seminars and I was on my way to becoming a wood carver.

As time passed, 3 of us started carving in my basement, at which time the 3 of us started a club in Ceylon. With the help of Lowell Farland, myself and a couple of others the club was formed. It is now known as the Ceylon Wood Carvers.

My first carvings were character carvings I did these for the first few years, in order to learn this type of carving I attended seminars, one from Mary and one from Harley. Later I started carving realistic animals and then realistic fish.

I myself have taught several classes. I really feel that anyone can become a wood carver- so why not try. I recommend you join a carving club in your area.
