Featured ArtistsRoger StoughMember of Ceylon Woodcarves, Ceylon, MN Introducing Roger Stough of Estherville, Iowa.. a woodcarver extraordinaire.. Roger has been actively engaged in working with wood for Fifty-four years... Following his discharge from active duty in the national guard in 1950, Roger went to work as a cabinet maker, a profession he pursued from 1950 to 2000.. the last twenty years in his own cabinet shop in Estherville, Ia. drafting custom made cabinetry for new homes for commercial applications and for remodels.... In 1989, Roger attended a wood carving show in Fairmont and became interested in the art of carving. He attributes much credit to Lowell Farland and Jim Morris of the Ceylon wood carvers club for "spiking" his interest in pursuing woodcarving as a hobby and an art form.. It was a natural for him as he had always enjoyed working with his hands and with wood.. In 1990, Roger became a member of the Ceylon woodcarvers and has been actively engaged in the club since then. Dave Rushlo, A Scottsdale, AZ. woodcarver, gave a seminar at Lowell Farlands on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Those in attendance carved a civil war soldier and a cowboy bust. This was to be the beginning of Roger's commitment to learn the many different techniques and styles of carving..  |
